Itinerary

Olpopongi Maasai Village

The “Olpopongi” Maasai Cultural Village & Museum is the first authentic Maasai Boma with Maasai-Museum & overnight facilities in Tanzania. “Olpopongi” provides a unique Maasai & Wildlife experience in the West-Kilimanjaro Maasailand; Just 74 km from Moshi and 85 km from Arusha. 
 

Materuni Waterfalls

Standing 150m high and nestled in the lush green forests on the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro, a Materuni waterfalls tour is an ideal getaway for those strapped for time. The waterfalls are located 30 minutes from Moshi town. This tour is accompanied by a visit to the Materuni village and a coffee tour. 

Begin the day with a short drive up onto the slopes of Kilimanjaro, to the village of Materuni, approximately 1,800 m above sea level. This lush rainforest region is known for producing some of the best coffee in East Africa. Start the day with a visit to a small coffee farm and learn about how the coffee is grown, harvested and processed locally. Try your own hand at processing, roasting and preparing a fresh cup of coffee in the local Chagga way

Once you have finished enjoying your coffee break, you will depart on a beautiful 45 minute hike through the hills and valleys en route to the waterfalls. Along the way your guide will teach you about local plants and how they are used for food and traditional medicine, as well as giving you more insight into the local Chagga culture.

The waterfalls are hidden in a pristine valley with cliffs towering up to 200ft overhead. The water falls straight down in a curtain to land in a small pool where you can relax, take lunch and go for a swim in the chill mountain waters.

After the falls hike you will return back to the car and return to Moshi. This is an experience you are sure to love, full of natural beauty, engaging education, and of course coffee.

 

Lake Chala

30 km east of Moshi, this crater lake fed from Mount Kilimanjaro is truly an off the beaten track. The views of the surrounding area and the shores of the lake provide a magnificent picnic site. The Chala Hill walk is best done in the early morning. Well worth the climb, this is an incredibly scenic walk with breath taking 360% views across the lake to Kenya, to Lake Jipe, Kilimanjaro and over most of the 800 hectares of Chala land. This walk can be continued right around the lake.

 

Chemka Hotspring

The tour takes you to the fascinating warm spring in the village with amazing clear blue water in beautiful surroundings covered by big trees with surprising roots of the fig trees, visitor will have a chance to swimming against strong flow of water in spring, camping overnight and having a local food prepared by our local mamas. This is a full day trip and will take around 8 hours and will include lunch. The price does not include the transport. 
 

Coffee Tour 

Coffee was one of the major exports of Tanzania, whilst this has lessened, coffee growing is still widespread across the region. You will travel between 10-25kms from Honey Badger and the trip will provide you with the opportunity to meet with local coffee growers, learn about the history whilst experiencing the process involved in making your own cup of coffee, i.e. the picking, roasting and grinding of the beans. This is a full day trip and will take around 8 hours and will include lunch. The price. 
  

Mandara Day Hike

Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut - Marangu Gate - Moshi

Distance: 8 km/5 miles 

Hiking Time: 4-5 hours

Habitat: Rain Forest

You will be picked up in the morning at your hotel in Moshi and taken to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (Marangu Gate, 1860m). The drive will take approximately 1 hour. Once the necessary gate registration has been completed, your trek can begin and you will soon be hiking through the dense Kilimanjaro rainforest.

Alongside the impressive vegetation, you will have the chance to catch a glimpse of black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and various bird species. Our knowledgeable English-speaking guide will inform you about Kilimanjaro and will explain the different species of plants and animals you will see. You will also meet mountain climbers descending from the top, and perhaps some of them will tell you of their experiences and you can start to dream about a climb of your own!

After a 3-4 hour hike, you will reach Mandara Hut (2700m), where you will have a well-earned rest and lunch. Your guide will then take you on a short hike (15 minutes walking distance) to the Maundi Crater, where you can enjoy wonderful views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Northern Tanzania and Kenya. Once you have thoroughly enjoyed the views, you will return to the Marangu Gate (2-3 hours walking distance), where your vehicle will be waiting for your transfer back to your hotel. On your return journey you can enjoy the sunset and the day‘s memories.

 

Moshi Forest Tour

Visit the lush, cool Moshi forest, spend time walking around exploring the forest and viewing the large Baobab trees. The trip will take around 5 hours and the price includes a guide, transport, visit to the rice paddies and entrance into the forest. Lunch can be arranged on request. 
 

Town Trip

We can arrange for guided town visits. During the trip, you can visit markets, churches, shops and other points of interest. You can also visit banks and bureau de change as necessary. After traipsing around town, you will have worked up a hunger, the day will finish with a late lunch at a tasty spot in town.
 

Marangu Village Tour

Ndoro and kilasia Waterfall is one of the most popular and largest waterfalls in the area. A one hour hike, descending through the stunning green landscapes of Chagga land will bring you to this huge waterfall, here you will have the opportunity to you can stand underneath the waterfall, even jump off one and go swimming in the refreshing water and have a well-deserved break for lunch. The word “Marangu” means a place with too many water streams. This is one of the most popular places in Tanzania. Marangu is also most popular hiking route for kilimanjaro day trip and total kilimanjaro hiking well know as "Coca Cola Route"
